Astronauts operate complex and expensive hardware while on orbit. They are trained extensively to ensure efficient, safe, and correct work in a challenging environment.

  • Space Applications Services provides professional, flexible and cost-efficient training services to Space Agencies and commercial space flight providers. We design, develop, implement training curriculum to fit Customers’ needs and we offer a portfolio of training related to our products and activities. Space Applications Services has more than 20 years of experience supporting the European Space Agency with Astronaut Training coordination, development and implementation.

  • Astronaut Training Coordination

Space Applications Services supports the coordination, planning, scheduling, and implementation of astronaut training. This includes the integration of training curricula, instructor coordination, training logistics, progress tracking, and interface management among multiple training providers to ensure that astronaut candidates acquire the foundational knowledge and skills required for subsequent mission-specific training phases.

  • Astronaut Payload Training

The Space Applications personnel develops and delivers training for astronauts that covers payload objectives and benefits, hardware and software hand-on operation, procedures and safety constraints, to ensure successful mission execution.

  • Ground Support Personnel (GSP) Training

Space Applications Services, as part of a broader Training Team, trains ground support personnel responsible for mission preparation and execution. Training includes communication and commanding protocols, operational support tools, console operations, and coordination activities between ground and flight crews, ensuring efficient support of space missions.

  • European & Multilateral Simulation Exercises

The company supports the preparation, execution, and evaluation of integrated simulation campaigns involving astronauts, flight control teams, instructors, engineering specialists, and international partners. These simulations are designed to improve crew-ground coordination, rehearse mission scenarios, and train participants in the management of off-nominal and emergency by injecting pre-defined malfunctions.

    Training Simulator Operations

Space Applications Services operates and maintains astronaut and ground-segment Columbus simulators used for mission simulations, and operational proficiency of the system training. This includes simulator preparation, technical support, scenario implementation, and instructor assistance during training events.

  • ODF Procedure Management

The company provides support for Operations Data File (ODF) management activities, including procedure review, validation, configuration control, and updates. These activities ensure that procedures are technically accurate, compliant with operational standards, and ready for use by astronauts and ground personnel during the mission.

  • Space Education for future workforce

For ESA Education Office, Space Applications offers Training Services with a Team onsite at ESEC (Belgium) to design and develop training programs, learning materials, and practical exercises for students and young professionals in areas such as spacecraft engineering, payload development, robotics, mission operations, etc. The delivery format ranges for onsite training, online live sessions and self-paced learning.

  • Maintenance and Repair Skills Course for Astronauts

For ESA-EAC Space Applications (with Hagen Engineering) designed and developed a 7-day onsite hands-on astronaut training course covering mechanical, electrical/electronic, hydraulic/pneumatic, and integrated troubleshooting skills required for onboard maintenance and repair operations in human spaceflight missions. The onsite course is complemented by an online self-paced pre-requisite module to cover basic electricity and electronic knowledge.

  • Space Weather Training for end-users

For ESA Space Safety / Space Situational Awareness Programme Space Applications, as part of the  Space Weather Service Network, develops and delivers face-to-face training courses, webinars and self-paced e-learning for operators and end-users on the impacts of space weather on human spaceflight, satellites, communications, navigation, and other space systems, combining scientific principles with operational applications

  • Yamcs Mission Control System Training

Yamcs Mission Control System Training covers mission control concepts, telemetry and telecommand processing, monitoring and control, system configuration, operational procedures, and administration of the Yamcs environment.
