A New Collaboration for Training and Testing in Simulated Reduced Gravity Conditions
At the Farnborough International Space Show in March 2025, Space Applications Services and Blue Abyss signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide the MOGOS (Mobile Gravity Off-loading System) to Blue Abyss’s state-of-the-art training facility in Ohio, USA. The MOGOS system will allow Blue Abyss to offer unique training and testing opportunities in simulated reduced gravity, ranging from 0g to 1g, in a dry environment. This system will complement the Blue Abyss neutral buoyancy pool, providing a comprehensive range of simulated environments for space, maritime, and human performance training.
What is MOGOS?
The Mobile Gravity Off-loading System (MOGOS) is an advanced solution that simulates gravity conditions ranging from microgravity to lunar and Martian gravity. Originally developed and validated for the DLR LUNA facility in Germany, MOGOS offers unprecedented flexibility. Unlike traditional gravity offloading systems that rely on cranes, MOGOS enables multiple subjects—whether people or payloads—to move autonomously and simultaneously in all directions, without the constraints of fixed paths or mechanical limitations. This feature makes MOGOS an ideal tool for training, research, and equipment testing in conditions that closely resemble those experienced during space missions.
Space Applications Services: Innovation in Space Systems
