Space Applications Services and Aerospace Applications North America Announce First Lunar Surface Mission

29/09/25

Space Applications Services and Aerospace Applications North America announce LUVMI Mission 1, their first lunar surface mission, set for Q3 2028. Targeting Shackleton Crater, the mission will deploy customer payloads using the LUVMI-M rover, designed for mobility in the Moon’s polar regions.

  • Space Applications Services and its US based counterpart, Aerospace Applications North America, are pleased to announce their first lunar surface mission, LUVMI Mission 1, scheduled for Q3 2028, targeting the Shackleton Crater at the Moon’s south pole. This mission will deliver customer payloads using the company’s LUVMI-M Mobility platform, a lunar rover offering 20kg of payload capacity, designed for surface mobility in lunar polar region.

This mission builds on Space Applications Services’ long-standing commercial access to space program, backed by more than 25 years of experience operating payloads on the International Space Station as well as sizeable engineering experience in major ESA and NASA programmes. Leveraging their expertise in space robotics and lunar rover development, they now extend that capability to the Moon

With mission planning well underway, the LUVMI Mission 1 campaign to organize the payload manifest is going on, and opportunities remain open for organizations looking to secure a spot. Payloads will be timely integrated on the rover with the support of our engineering teams, while engineering support is available on demand to assist in payloads development and qualification for lunar conditions.

“Our goal is to make the Moon accessible for research and innovation,” said Jeremi Gancet, Systems Department Manager at Space Applications Services. “By combining our rover platform with our extensive expertise in mission operations and engineering support, we provide a complete solution for organizations looking to operate their payload on the lunar surface.”
