We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with expertise in the mechanical design of complex space systems to join our lunar rover development team in our Technology, Applications and Research Division of the Systems Department. Location: Sint-Stevens-Woluwe (Brussels Area) Start date: Q1 2026 Tasks and Responsibilities Engage in the mechanical engineering of the lunar rover platform (locomotion, chassis, mechanical interfaces, etc) Perform end-to-end CAD design, optimise and prepare models and drawings for manufacturing Collaborate closely with the Project Manager, System Engineer, and other Team Members to ensure alignment with project requirements Coordinate effectively with parts suppliers and manufacturing workshops to support component sourcing and production Oversee the Manufacturing, Assembly, Integration, and Testing (MAIT) of the rover’s mechanical elements within our laboratory Prepare and maintain all necessary technical documentation.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Engage in the mechanical engineering of the lunar rover platform (locomotion, chassis, mechanical interfaces, etc)

  • Perform end-to-end CAD design, optimise and prepare models and drawings for manufacturing

  • Collaborate closely with the Project Manager, System Engineer, and other Team Members to ensure alignment with project requirements

  • Coordinate effectively with parts suppliers and manufacturing workshops to support component sourcing and production

  • Oversee the Manufacturing, Assembly, Integration, and Testing (MAIT) of the rover’s mechanical elements within our laboratory

  • Prepare and maintain all necessary technical documentation.

Skills and Experience

  • Master (or PhD) degree in mechanical engineering

  • Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in the engineering of space systems or equipment

  • High proficiency with CAD tools

  • Good knowledge of space system engineering standards (ECSS, other agency standards)

  • Good knowledge of materials and tolerancing in space applications context

  • Good understanding of space qualification process

  • Good understanding of PA implications

  • Hands-on experience in the Manufacturing, Assembly, Integration, and Testing (MAIT) of space systems or components under workshop conditions

  • Strength to cope with tight schedules and deadlines

  • Proficiency in communication at team level and when interacting with customers and suppliers

  • Excellent written and spoken English.
