Announcement of the winners of the Space Exploration Masters “Best Business Innovation” idea

During the first European hosting of the New Space Conference, in Luxembourg, on the evening of Thursday 16th November the European Space Agency and Space Applications Services announced the winners of the Space Exploration Masters “Best Business Innovation” idea related to Space Exploration. The three finalists were FENIX of D-Orbit: a novel small satellite deorbiting device that can also be used for lifetime extension, a Kino-Cardiograph, patent applied for, that is non intrusive and GlioCube a platform to investigate microgravity effects on human cancer cells.
FENIX D-Orbit is the winner and the prize, a free flight to the International Space Station for a D-Orbit technology payload with the ICE Cubes Service, was made by Richard Aked, Managing Director of Space Applications Services, to Stefano Antonetti D-Orbit Program Manager.
The prize includes:
- Launch, flight and operations of the Experiment Cube [1U-size] on the International Space Station for a four month period
- Guidelines and mentorship for the development of the payload
- Certificate of recognition: ESA Business Innovation Idea Master Award
- Dedicated press release on the ESA Space Exploration Benefits Website
