The MOONWALK team at Space Applications Services performs a series of hardware tests on the communications equipment that in the future will link, through a novel Human-Machine Interface, a space suit on a simulated Lunar surface in the sea bottom of Marseilles, France with a Mission Control Center in Brussels, Belgium.
MOONWALK is a EU-funded project on Technologies and Human-Robot Collaboration for Surface EVA Exploration Activities and Training. It includes the development of a lunar analogue subsea environment for the testing of collaborative robot control, Extra Vehicular Activity information systems and human behavior and performance with various communication latencies. The MOONWALK consortium includes, Space Applications Services, Belgium; DFKI, Germany; COMEX, France; AIRBUS, UK; LIQUIFER, Austria; NTNU, Norway; INTA; Spain.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme for research, technological development and demonstration under grant agreement no 607346.
